2BR refined ethnic style in Eixample - Livingstone

 Dr. Livingstone, I presume?

Welcome to our Livingstone apartment, a rest for senses and a gift for the brave.

It was well over a century ago that Stanley gave the famous greeting: “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” Outside Tanzania, likely very few would understand the significance of this encounter.

Sleek, modern and majestic... The Building

  • • located on the 6th floor of a new glass building with a lift/elevator
  • • the address is C/ Urgell with C/ Sepúlveda, in the modernist Eixample left, next to Sant Antoni market
  • • reinforced entrance door & video intercom system, double door in the access to the building
  • • inside the building there is a big atrium with a glass ceiling, crossed by suspended bridges leading to your door
  • • groups of bamboo trees and whitee stones, are bathed by natural light cascades, creating a fresh, shining atmosphere
  • • glass, steel, stone and wood are the materials used for the building

Stanley relates what happened next: “The expedition at last comes to a halt... There is a group of the most respectable Arabs; and as I come nearer, I see the white face of an old man among them... We raise our hats, and I say, ‘Dr. Livingstone, I presume?’ and he says, ‘Yes.’”

Wandering around... The Neighbourhood

Located in the Eixample left district of Barcelona, next to the Sant Antoni marketplace -designed by Antoni Rovira i Trias and built between 1872 and 1882- which is one of the oldest and most popular in the city, especially with the secondhand book stalls that surround the building on Sunday mornings.

It is bordered by the avenues of Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Ronda de Sant Antoni and Avinguda del Paral.lel. The streets of Sant Antoni follow the grid pattern prevalent in all of Eixample, except for a central thoroughfare, the Avinguda de Mistral, built on the site of an important medieval road which lead out of Barcelona. Another well-known landmark of Sant Antoni is the bar called Els Tres Tombs, right next to the market.

Just a few meters away is Parlament sreet, the new happening cluster, a boiling pot where the utmost interesting things are arising. It all started with the Federal Café, which opened at the end of 2010 and reached almost legendary status, as among the most brilliant entrepreneurs in town. In their case, they spotted a gap for breakfast and brunch in Barcelona, and these days securing a seat either in the café or on the roof terrace on a Saturday or Sunday is nigh-on impossible.

Those who had been paying attention soon followed. Vinito, the little wine shop that has been there considerably longer than Federal, expanded on their two barrels outside where you could sip a glass while you shopped and it’s become a popular spot for a crafty apero when out shopping. Next door, Bar Calders commandeered a prime piece of terrace on the alleyway, added a few pretty plants and hey presto, it’s the spot du jour for a Sunday morning vermouth or a craft beer in the evening with a couple of tapas like hummus and guacamole.

Tarannà Bar & Café opened later, with a style very similar to Federal. Their windows also open onto the street so you can sit in them, they have large communal tables, single-plate simple lunches like fresh pasta stuffed with botifarra and a solid wine list.

And another new place, the Zuckerhaus opened selling old-fashioned, home-baked cakes from a pretty cake shop on the corner. Manuela is half German, half Italian and to the usual round-up of treats has added black forest gateaux, fresh plum frangipane tart and pumpkin and apple cake. This is the perfect place for an afternoon pick-me-up.

The Livingstone is our tribute to explorers... which is what all of us are, at the end of the day...

We would stay here again!

The apartment was exactly as described. It is in a mostly residential area, but only 15 minutes walk from Placa de Catalunya (5 minutes by car). It is on a higher floor - lots of light and nice view. The apartment was clean and in great shape. Communication with Jaume and person who checked us in, Ali, was great - very responsive and helpful. Ali was extremely friendly and nice - gave us advice on parking, groceries, everything. A/C, WiFi, washer, dryer - everything was working as expected. We loved the location of the apartment - living in the city, close to everything, but quiet at night and not in the middle of a tourist block where no one goes to sleep before 3am. We would stay here again.

The place to stay in Barcelona

Great apartment in an ideal location. Easy to book and easy to get to. The Aerobus from the airport drops you off 1 block from the apartment. The Aerobus to return picks you up nearly in front of the apartment. The lift and air conditioning were an added bonus. Very modern, great amenities and the location is in a safe neighborhood with many restaurants and grocery shops.

A special thanks to Mercedes and Jaume for having some very good local connections to get us concert tickets.
TIP: There is no Uber but "Cabify" works just as well if you need to go somewhere outside walking distance.

Barcelona was great and we would definitely return to the Livingstone apartment.
Thanks again.

Modern, clean and comfortable!

The apartment is very modern, clean and comfortable. It has most of the amenities one may need. It was nice having a washer and dryer in the apartment. The apartment is part of closed apartment building with an elevator and located in a residential area. There is a metro 1 block away and the My Taxi app works great in Spain. It is a 0.5 miles away from Plaza Catalunya. The area is really safe walk in. The apartment is definitely worth price!

Would I stay here again or recommend to others? YES!!

The flat was well-located in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood of Barcelona, one block from the Urgell stop on the L1 metro line. The immaculately clean flat was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our stay. The air-conditioning worked perfectly and it was an absolutely treat to be in a perfectly climate-controlled space due to the central cooling, especially when it was so hot outside. Jaume and Gemma were fantastic–could not have asked for better hosts. Would I stay here again or recommend to others? YES!!

Highly recommend this apartment!

Apartment was gorgeous - clean, spacious, had everything we need! Also within walking of nearly everywhere on our list for our stay in Barcelona. Our hostess was a huge help when she greeted us and gave us tips and walked us through the map to get oriented as well! Highly recommend this apartment!

Beautiful and bright apartment!

Jaume's apartment is beautiful with lots of light, convenient to stores and an easy walk to Placa Catalunya. The 2 bathrooms were nice with great water pressure. The Barcelona Aerobus stops less than a block from the building and is a great option. They let us check in early which made it very convenient. We liked many of the restaurants and shops in El Born so this was a bit further from that then we would have liked but the apartment was comfortable and very nice.

This apartment was extraordinary!

This apartment was extraordinary! I was there for business and the apartment is extremely well appointed with everything you may need for a comfortable stay. The location is also really wonderful - within easy walking distance to Gothic quarter, Las Ramblas, Born, city center, and so much more! Conveniently located in a quiet residential area with nearby groceries and local restaurants with all the amenities you could ask for. We also really appreciated the washer and dryer! All in all, a tremendous place to stay - whether for work or pleasure!

Loved it

The Livingstone is a lovely, clean, modern unit in a great location. Spacious by big-city standards. There's a beautiful apartment building across the street that enhances the view. Very convenient to the Metro and to several good restaurants and other sightseeing destinations without being in a touristy area. This is a real residential neighborhood. Look online for restaurants in the Sant Antoni area to find some nearby gems. Also in the neighborhood (a 10 minute walk north on Urgell) is a terrific, festive Salsa club frequented by locals that we visited one night. We aren't great dancers, but nobody minded that we were there just to watch. JazzSi Club, also in the area, is highly recommended, but we never managed to get there early enough. Wish they had a late show!

Two suggestions for BizFlats: a couple of luggage stands would be nice so guests don't have to place their suitcases on the floor. And for us Americans, some washcloths/facecloths as part of the linen supply would be most welcome. Thanks again for a great stay!

Felt like home!

We loved our beautiful flat (it was actually the Livingstone) in Barcelona! The pricing was so reasonable that we kept the flat the whole time we were in Spain even though we left for 2 and 3 day excursions. Every time we returned to Livingstone, it felt like home, it was so much nicer than the other flats we stayed in. It was light and airy, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The only thing nicer than the apartment was the staff. Gemma and Jaume were so awesome in making us feel welcome and taken care of. If we are lucky enough to return to Barcelona one day, we would definitely want to stay there again.
