If you are in Barcelona during this weekend you will enjoy a complete scenario of traditions and culture: “gegants” (giants), “sardanas” (a traditional dance) and castells (human towers), among others. Highlights include the Correfoc or Fire Run, featuring costumed devils and fire-breathing dragons. Not to miss: The fireworks display near the Montjuïc Fountain. Will leave you breathless!
This year the celebration will be more than special as it commemorates 300 years of the events of 11 September 1714. The program includes free concerts, shows and acts in the most emblematic spots simultaneously: Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina, Parc de la Ciutadella, Plaça Catalunya, Plaça de Sant Jaume and others.
The soundtrack of La Mercè 2014 will host all rhythms: pop, rock and traditional roots music. BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical) will be the specialty of the festival and this year includes Swedish rhythms in their programming, with Stockholm as guest city.To check the complete concerts program click here.
