Between 2011 and 2014 Barcelona’s Plaça Catalunya was home to an ice rink for tourists and locals alike. However, despite the city’s current mayor choosing not to reinstate this rink in the centre of the city, there are three other ice rinks in Barcelona that are simply perfect for a festive day out with the entire family.

So whether you’re a pro at pirouettes or are like us and need to cling on to the rail the whole way round, check out this this article so you can enjoy the most fairy tale-like Christmas in the city.

Ice Rinks in Barcelona: L’Illa Diagonal

In the heart of this shopping centre, find one of the most family-friendly ice rinks in Barcelona. It’s the perfect time of year for your little ones to break the ice and have a go at ice-skating. And here at L’Illa Diagonal there are penguin skating aids to help them learn.

The rink is open now until 9 January. Tickets are 5€ for unlimited skating time from Monday to Friday, 5pm to 9pm until 21 December. Opening times and ticket prices vary over the Christmas holidays and can be consulted here. Don’t forget your gloves!

L’Illa Diagonal shopping centre boasts a range of shops, boutiques and restaurants, and can be accessed by buses number 63, 67 or 7 from Plaça Catalunya.

Ice Rinks in Barcelona: FC Barcelona

How would you like to try your hand at skating on one of the most famous ice rinks in Barcelona? The FC Barcelona ice rink is now open every day of the week for all ages.

Tickets start from 13€ (or 7.50€ for FC Barcelona members) and include ice skate rental. You can book your tickets online in advance here, where you can also check the opening times, which vary over the Christmas holidays.

Located right outside the famous Camp Nou, this ice rink also offers free parking (limited times on match days). To get there by public transport, take the green line on the metro from Plaça Catalunya to Palau Reial.

Ice Rinks in Barcelona: Jardins de Can Xiringoi

Located in the district of Nou Barris is one of the most magical ice rinks in Barcelona, opening on 10 December until 9 January at the Can Xiringoi gardens. With a view to bolster shopping in this residential district, this ice rinks hopes to bring visitors to the area and encourage people to shop at local businesses.

What’s more, this ice rink is actually made from synthetic and sustainable materials to reduce its environmental impact.

Tickets cost 6€ for 20 minutes and include ice skate rental, with the option of gloves for an extra €1. What’s more, 50% discounts are available if you shop at any of the surrounding local businesses that support the ice rink.

The quickest way to get to this magical ice rink in Barcelona is by metro via the yellow line to Maragall from Passeig de Gràcia, close to Plaça Catalunya.

Until 22 December, this ice rink in Barcelona will be open Monday-Sunday in the evening from 5pm to 8:30pm. Ice Rinks in Barcelona: La Maquinista
